Our Commitment to Sustainability

There is simply no denying that everything we do as individuals and enterprises has an impact on the health and welfare of the planet and the quality of life of future generations. Unfortunately, despite the perceived liberal nature of Hollywood and persistent green washing, the film production business can be resource-intensive and wasteful. At Futuristic Films, we have made a long-term commitment to create a sustainable business and this commitment impacts every decision we make. Currently here is what we are doing:

  1. We have located our headquarters in the neighborhood in which we live and play, allowing us to almost completely reduce our daily dependence on automobile travel in favor of walking and bicycling.
  2. One third of our automobiles run on 100% locally produced biodiesel.
  3. We consistently look for ways to improve our community by supporting local businesses, artists, and craftspeople.
  4. At our office, on set and on-location, we recycle.
  5. We buy local and organic products whenever possible.
  6. The nature of our business demands that we work with the best talent wherever they may be located, but we consistently work to limit our air travel to the absolutely necessary by leveraging communication and work-share technologies whenever possible.

While we are proud of these steps, we understand that they are only the beginning. Here are some of our future plans:

  1. Our greatest environmental impact comes from frequent and long-distance air travel. We are currently examining different options for purchasing carbon credits to reduce our carbon footprint.
  2. We are looking into ways to ensure that our energy supply comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar.

Futuristic Films is committed to being a carbon-neutral, sustainable business. We feel the urgency to make this happen now, but we realize that there are difficult and often complex choices to be made. Follow along with our blog to learn more about our latest efforts as we move forward down this path.
